Meteora is an area in Greece where six beautiful Orthodox Christian monasteries are built on unusual huge rocks. It attracts countless pilgrims each year but also tourists who want to experience the breathtaking view and the monastic life in those monasteries. People lived in caves of that area thousands of years ago, the first monks-hermits started worshipping God there in the 11th century, and the first monasteries were built in the 14th century. From the first 24 monasteries, only six remain active. The rest are mainly in ruin. Meteora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
