Dear Santa,

I just found a little time to write to you, and I hope my last-minute letter reaches you before you arrive in my city. First of all, I want to thank you so much for helping me all these years gain more knowledge and share it with all my friends. Thank you for all the people you brought to my path who have joined my efforts to improve our health and life. This year, I would like to ask you to help me be an even better person, find more ways to influence my friends toward a meaningful living, respect my life more, and therefore find more traps we all fall into when it comes to our health.

I have a complaint, though… Since my childhood, as I remember, you have been… overweight!?! You go up and down all the chimneys, but you are still out of shape!!! How could it be? I assume your lunch and dinner is full of junk food, and your refrigerator is probably filled with tons of butter, processed, and pre-cooked food. Or do you also hide chocolates and cookies in your closet? I understand you love kids so much, and you spend all your time preparing their gifts but do not also forget to take care of yourself. You should set some days aside to exercise and even improve your diet. What example do you set for all of us when we see you overweight every year? Please, make a gift to yourself this year, and promise me you will start healthier habits. Consider and Randolph. He is quite old. When you are so heavy, he struggles to carry you to the houses across the world.

Forgive me for being that straight with you. Our health should always come first. Plus, if you continue to lead an unhealthy life, you may get sick, and then there will be no one to bring us our gifts each year. No matter how many tasks we have to complete every day, we should never forget to set a little time aside for ourselves!

Feel free to subscribe to my newsletters or my website and have the opportunity to receive helpful information about your health. Please, find a gym in your neighborhood, or hire a personal trainer to help you lose some weight. I hope I see you fit this year with toned muscles, and not with a pumped belly as I usually see you every year.

Have a happy & healthy New Year!
Thank you,

. . .

Dear Kosmas,

I apologize for not writing to you earlier; I did that on purpose. If I wrote to you then, maybe you would not understand. It has been a few years now since I received your letter, and I thank you for taking the time to write to me, expressing your concern over my health. You are older now, and you will understand a few things I would like to tell you.

First of all, you should know that I am overweight not because I eat unhealthy food at times. The main reason for my condition is that I have inherited this body type from my father and have had more pounds than I should since I remember myself as a child. Although I eat less than others, my weight is never at normal levels. When you wrote me your letter, I was suffering from a health condition that made me gain a lot of weight. That also affected my mood; I started eating uncontrollably foods I shouldn’t eat. I sadly gained even more weight.

It is good for you to know that not all overweight and obese are in that condition because they necessarily eat a lot. Very often, health issues get in the way and cause such unwanted conditions. However, I have to admit that I do eat some junk food at times, as you have assumed, but this happens not because I don’t care about my health. In some cases, I cannot avoid that. There are times at which I have less or no money, and unhealthy food is the only inexpensive option I have. I spend almost all of my money on the kids’ gifts, and times come that I don’t have money to eat properly. I inherited an immense fortune from my parents, but I spent it all buying gifts, making donations, and helping the poor. I did not want to live on others’ money, and I gave it all. I started my life from scratch, leaning on my own strengths. I have learned so much from that. I have never regretted it, but that decision has brought me many tough times at which I could not eat properly. Thank God I have always managed to buy gifts for the kids.

Today, people are quick to criticize any overweight they see, and they never bother to think that there might be other reasons behind those additional pounds. But even if it is their choice to eat more or unhealthy, we should respect it. Everyone should be free to live the life they want. Sometimes, when people live a comfortable life, they forget that not all are fortunate to live that way. They also often have harsh words about fast and junk food. They consume only organic food, and they never think that there are people out there who find something cheap and tasty to eat only at fast-food restaurants and chains.

Keep these words in mind, my child, and never rush to judge others; take care of your heart first, and then your appearance. After all, what is a great and healthy body useful for when it is empty within? Take care first of your good heart, have positive thoughts for everyone and everything, and then your physical health will find its way to you. You won’t have to look for it. It will come like a gentle hug that will transform everything in you!

With love,
Santa Claus
